Journalist and researcher, she is the CEO of  the Instituto Ciência na Rua (Science on Street Institute), a non-governmental organization established in 2021, as an spinoff of the science journalism project Ciência na Rua (www.ciencianarua.net), launched in January 2015,  aimed at young audiences. She has been working with science journalism since 1988, after two decades of work in general and economy journalism in major Brazilian newspapers and magazines. She created and was director, from 1999 to 2014, of the important magazine Pesquisa Fapesp, edited by the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp). She began the implementation of Fapesp's communication sector in April 1995 and was the Foundation's communication manager from December 1995 to July 2002. She is a retired full professor at the Federal University of Bahia, reinstated in December 2015, by decision of the Commission from Amnesty/Ministry of Justice, 40 years after being fired due to political persecutions during the 1964-1985 military dictatorship. She holds a degree in Journalism from the Federal University of Bahia (1972), a Master's (1987) and a PhD (2006) in Communication from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a postdoctoral degree from the Laboratory of Advanced Studies in Journalism at the State University of Campinas ( Labjor-Unicamp, 2019), a center where she was also a collaborating researcher from 2015 to 2017. She was president of the Brazilian Association of Scientific Journalism.
