Mercy Chelangat is a Science Reporter  at the Nation Media Group. She has worked as a reporter for the Daily Nation since July 2019. She has a Bachelors degree in Communications and Journalism from Maasai Mara University. Mercy is passionate about health and climate stories,  and is a trained fact checker, who mainly debunks fake climate news. This is a straight news science and climate story focusing on potential ocean pollution by shipwrecks This is a story about a Kenyan hospital that recently received an oxygen generating plant donation, and is now able to save preterm babies lives. Initially, they had to order oxygen from the capital city, coupled with financial challenges and procurement delays. This is  a fact check debunking the claim that the ocean heating is coming from the bottom of the ocean as opposed to carbon dioxide from global warming. This is a story about how genetically modified cotton is transforming cotton farming in Lamu, Kenya.
